Armchair BEA!

BookExpo America (BEA) is going on right now. For those of us who could not attend, there is Armchair BEA! For today's exercise, we are to answer questions about ourselves to facilitate a meet and greet! Please see below:

Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging? I am Elizabeth (Libby) Myers Rodriguez. I am an Urban Planner with a Masters from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. I do freelance planning studies as my 'day job!' I have been blogging for about 6 or 7 months...Why?...hmmm...because its there(?)

What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2012? Currently, I am reading both a Wodehouse compendium and Les Mis - bopping back and forth, which I like to do...

If you could eat dinner with any author or character, who would it be and why? Salman Rushdie. He and Amy Tan are my two favorite (living) authors.

What literary location would you most like to visit? Why? The Marvelous Land of Oz - LOL! As a kid, I read all the Oz books and was just completely obsessed. So, if someone arranges a trip, yea, I'm in!

What is your favorite part about the book blogging community? Is there anything that you would like to see change in the coming years? I love the way that everyone comes up with challenges, memes, read-alongs, etc! I don't really want it to change, but I bet we will all keep coming up with new things and there will be exciting changes that I have not even thought of!

Emily's Reading Room designed the badge at the top!

  2. I'll definitely come with you to Oz! Let's goooo!

Also, I love Salman Rushdie too! He's not an author I really ever see being discussed on blogs (I understand that's because, you know, he's difficult! But still, RUSHDIE!) so yeah, I like to see him get some love sometimes :).

Love Read-a-longs. I've been trying to have a book club for years, but bookish blog peoples have filled that big whole in my happiness.

  14. May I join you on the trip to OZ? My father passed on his collection of 21 Oz titles. We both colored the pictures rendering them worthless (monetarily). Isn't this great fun?

  18. I read Les Miz in 1989 when the musical was in town and we were too poor to be able to see it. (That and I had just had a baby...probably why we were so poor!) I loved that book and just learned the movie is being released this fall. Oz is quite a wonderful place. It's nice to meet all of these new blogger friends via Armchair BEA.

  19. Planning on reading Les Miz myself this year - have you seen the trailer for the movie coming out at Christmas? It looks fatnastic!

  21. Is it totally creepy if I volunteer to be a stowaway on your trip to the Land of Oz? I loved those books. Thanks so much for the comment on my blog! I'm beyond glad that I decided to participate in Armchair BEA this year. Cheers--

  22. Oooo... I bet dinner with Salman Rushdie would be amazing. I also think it would be super cool to visit Oz, but without the flying monkeys. Those things gave me the creeps as a kid, and I think they still would (especially in "real life")! Haha!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I also like to "bop back and forth" between books. I'm constantly distracted by whatever's "new and shiny". :) It just makes life more interesting.

    Enjoy Armchair BEA.

  24. I read one book by Amy Tan, The Hundred Secret Senses, and loved it. I really need to read more by her!

Love your idea of going to Oz - what a fun trip that would be!!!

Here's my Armchair BEA Intro Post.

  26. Great intro! Very nice to meet you!

Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier today for the intro. :)

  27. Les Mis! I've wanted to read that, but I'm scared by the length. Thanks for visiting my blog today.

    ReplyDelete
  28. There is something so very tantalizing about traveling the yellow brick road into the unknown. :)

Les Mis is one of those books I'm always meaning to read, but I second Heidi in being scared by the length. Guess I'll have to stick with the musical for now! LOL

  32. I tell myself that someday I will read Les Mis because I love the musical so much, and then I look at the sheer size of the thing and think, "Maybe next year..." Hats off to you for tackling it!

  33. Hi Libby! Thanks for stopping by my intro! I'm glad you enjoy my favorite songs! I love Les Mis, especially the character of Epodine. (too bad she is not in the book :(

  36. I need to suck up some courage and read Les Mis. I've seen the musical three times and I do have a copy of the book! It's just so freaking huge and intimidating! But, I love, love, love the story. Wonder if I'll hear the songs in my head while I read? Do you? :)
